The Foundation

High in the mountains of Mexico's Oaxaca state lies the village of San Felipe Lachillo, an isolated community of about 800 families. Life is hard in San Felipe. Cut off from medical facilities, social services and paying jobs, the people of San Felipe suffer from some of the most entrenched poverty in the Western Hemisphere.

In the rainy season power and roads can be knocked out for weeks at a time. There is no library, no dentist. Secondary schooling consists of telescuela-teaching videos played on an old television. Recreational and creative opportunities for children are nonexistent.

San Felipe is not unique. Dotted throughout the Mexican countryside are poor rural villages where limited opportunities predict a bleak future.

The Bacaanda Foundation was established to help the people of San Felipe and towns like it. Working in close collaboration with local leaders, the foundation targets the community's most pressing needs through health, literacy, recreation and vocational programs. Together we're working toward a better future. Will you help us?
